The only thing really gut-wrenching about last night’s game was, per usual with the Red Sox, the fact that it lasted almost four hours. I’m feeling weird and emo this week. Need tea..

Photo: AP Justin’s last three pitches thrown today (for a total of 123) were all strikes, and they were all at 98mph or above. I really hope baseball fans appreciate how important and amazing this guy is. Words cannot describe how in awe of him I am. It’s just a great feeling to sit back and watch him cruise through a game. The one chance I got to see him pitch a couple months ago was considered an “off night” for him - 5.1 IP, 7 hits, 3 earned runs, 6 K’s, 4 BB, 118 pitches. I still couldn’t take my eyes off him, I was still thrilled to even be able to watch in person. I hope he’s around for a long time.

Photo: AP Sometimes I feel like I take Miguel “Big Mig” Cabrera for granted. I mean, he’s consistently the fourth best hitter in the AL and the best on the Tigers by far. He’s taken command of his spot at first base and rarely lets anything get by him. And he plays long ball. A lot.  So thanks, you giant Venezuelan. You are awesome, and I even forgive you for wearing those high socks with the Champion logo on them a couple weeks ago.

Dear baseball media people who generally have a lot more credibility than me,

There is nobody like Brandon Inge at third base. The world is finally well aware of this. When other people make errors at his position when he’s resting his knee (cough Ryan Raburn cough), of course it will stand out. But you can’t blame a loss on him after we went 0 for 16 with RISP. Dudes that aren’t named Inge make mistakes. I’d freak out and airmail a throw too, if I kept getting left on base! Don’t put the loss on Raburn.

P.S. I support the return of Don Kelly on September 1st, much like Tiger Geist does. If only for his high socks.

Shake-ups

I know I’m always excited about baseball, but I’m REALLY excited about tonight’s game, even though I will miss some of it. Rick will be on the mound, finally done with his suspension. A new bat to DH for us. Carlos back in the outfield. Avila will hopefully continue to be our Lord and Savior. We got all our top draft picks, even though we obviously won’t be seeing them for awhile. Tonight we’re up against the Mariners and King Felix, which should be challenging, but BRING IT.

AND I get to see them in person in less than a week! I LOVE THESE GUYS.

“You know, baseball is a funny game,” Rick said. “There’s been games where I felt great for the first three frames and all of a sudden I hit a wall, and then other times when I felt better as the game went on, so you never really know. I just try to stay focused and try to get guys out.” You just keep doing that, kid. We’re enjoying it as much as you are.
