Maggs got dis.

I missed the game initially tonight - I was out at a free screening of Whip It but since it was on ESPN, was able to record it and fast forward through shit I don’t care about, like the ESPN jerks talking about Brett Favre (!?) and several Twins at-bats.

OHMYGOD. AWESOME THINGS COULD HAPPEN TOMORROW (or the next day, or the day after that). I AM SO EXCITED, AND SO IS BRANDON, AS YOU CAN SEE BELOW.

Not a nice way to spend the afternoon

On the edge of my seat about to puke every time our offense failed. Ugh.

At least Rick padded his Rookie of the Year resume. Too bad we couldn’t get him a win… hopefully tonight will go better.

I wasn't going to diginify today's game with a post

However, I just want to say two things:

1. I am officially over Fernando Rodney. All season I kept pointing out his save record (which is almost perfect), ignoring the close calls, but I just can’t take it anymore. There wasn’t a save for him to blow today, but If he hadn’t given up all those runs we would have had a decent shot at walking off in the 9th or at least tying the game. I hope someone else signs him in the off-season. I support spending some dough to keep Brandon Lyon around, and Ryan Perry is going to be an excellent closer.

2. I love Zack Greinke more than ever for holding the Twins at bay today.

Four games against the Twinkies up next. Rick’s going tomorrow. I am cautiously optimistic. Bring it.

Hit parades

…are super fun.

SO MUCH happened in tonight’s game; so many hits, not to mention an amazing comeback that just kept coming. I love the Tigers so damn much, it made me so proud.

I watched a bit of playoff-clinching celebrations being had by other teams tonight. I really hope I’ll be watching my boys do the same this year.

  • alli: I DON'T KNOW
  • alli: mind = blown
  • Vanessa: time to bust the map out
  • alli: yes.
  • alli: you may want a map of Ohio or something.
  • Vanessa: dang
  • Vanessa: yeah
  • Vanessa: wtf?
  • alli: i know!!
  • Vanessa: hmm
  • Vanessa: so like
  • Vanessa: is it like Chicago where they can "go to the beach"?
  • Vanessa: cuz Cleveland sounds so... ghetto industrial
  • alli: I am unsure
  • Vanessa: so it must be more like Gary, IN
  • alli: another friend just informed me its nickname is the "mistake by the lake"
  • alli: so I am thinking you are on the right track with that

I’m stoked a photo I took (this one) made it onto the dugout. I hope they find it in their hearts to credit me, though.

Geography with Alli & Vanessa
  • Vanessa: my brain doesnt work
  • Vanessa: i always thought toledo was in idaho
  • alli: hahahahaha
  • Vanessa: i was confused for a second
  • Vanessa: "an hour.. by jet plane, maybe"
  • alli: i couldnt tell you where idaho is without looking at a map
  • alli: all those around there blend together for me
  • Vanessa: it looks like a chimney
  • Vanessa: and wyoming and colorado are boxes
  • Vanessa: that's how i remember it
  • alli: isnt nebraska kind of a box too
  • Vanessa: sort of but it has some character
  • Vanessa: the one side is jgged
  • Vanessa: like a smaller, upside down montana
  • alli: ah
  • alli: "nebraska... a smaller, upside down montana!"
  • Vanessa: "and less jagged"
  • Vanessa: now let me check to see if i'm correct
  • alli: haha
  • Vanessa: oh
  • Vanessa: nebraska has a bit of a handle
  • Vanessa: didnt remember that
  • Vanessa: (link to map)
  • Vanessa: so i guess kansas is the smaller upside down montana that is less jagged
  • alli: oh
  • alli: hahaha
  • alli: ok
  • alli: see when i picture the US in my head
  • alli: idaho is in between like
  • alli: south dakota and iowa for some reason
  • Vanessa: for me it's between colorado and utah
  • alli: weird
  • Vanessa: maybe they moved the state since we were in 5th grade or something
  • alli: I think they did.
  • alli: see and also
  • alli: i always picture colorado to be swapped with utah!
  • Vanessa: yes, and utah should be where idaho now is
  • Vanessa: there has definitely been some fucking around with the states
  • alli: we need to do something about this
  • Vanessa: no wonder my drives to califonria were so confusing
  • Vanessa: "... huh? we are in what state now?"

Remember When You Were in Elementary, and Your Mom Made You Play with that Kid Even Though You Hated Each Other? → sports.yahoo.com

leeleeleelee:

Milton Bradley of the Chicago Cubs is that kid.

I wanted to strangle the person on a forum I frequent that suggested bringing him to the Tigers. We don’t want that kind of bat, no thanks.

“

An odd point came up as Don Kelly was explaining what happened on the fly ball in the eighth.

“Once it went through the lights, I lost it,” Kelly said. “There’s really nothing else you can do. I mean, it’s not like I took my eye off of it. People were saying they’ve seen many, many balls lost here. It’s not the first. It’s not going to be the last.”

At that point, someone pointed out that it might be the last. After all, there’s just four games left at the Metrodome before the Twins move to the Target Center for next season.

“Thanks,” Kelly said with just a slight crack of a smile.
